Soup Recalled for “Possible Underprocessing”
The maker of Stater Bros. brand canned soup is recalling certain 18.6-ounce cans of Chunky Grilled Steak With Vegetables due to “possible underprocessing.”
The USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) is circulating the announcement as a Class I recall with a high health risk for food poisoning.
Pittsburgh-based Bay Valley Foods LLC said its recall of Stater Bros. soup applies to 6,490 pounds of the product, which was produced on November 10, 2008, and shipped to California. The ready-to-serve soup has a Use By/Sell By date of 11/10/10. The date is marked on the top of each can along with the USDA Establishment Number EST 108.
The published recall notice made no mention of any related illnesses and FSIS said it has not received any illness reports related to the product. The FSIS said the problem — which was not specified in the recall notice — was discovered by the company.
